about the artist.

Suffolk born, Douglas Page is a professional artist, who works predominantly in watercolour and collage, and has been exhibiting his work throughout East Anglia, London and the Southern Counties since 1987. More recently his work has been exhibited and sold in New York, where he is represented by Emmanuelle G. Contemporary Gallery.

He also shares his experience and knowledge teaching others.

The East Anglian estuaries, local landscapes & coastline provide Douglas with plenty of stories to tell, sometimes with a comical narrative, sometimes the mood is the story.

Douglas is mainly self taught, although in 1992 fate lent a hand when he met Penny Linton who taught him for a year. "…it was the best decision I have ever made, she opened my mind to all art forms without bias, I can now consider what can be, instead of what is."

“I have in the past worked in a more considered approach, but the dangerous one is much more appealing to me.”

a few words from the fans…

“Douglas is a tremendously observant artist and he is passionate about painting... which is very evident in the pieces of artwork on this website.”

PENNY LINTON (Owner of many of his paintings!)

“Douglas’ encyclopaedic knowledge of artists is formidable and understanding of colour mind blowing. I feel so privileged to have painted under his guidance and hope to continue.  Douglas is so unaware of his huge talent.

I am thrilled to be in the possession of many of his works going back over twenty five years! From watercolours and collages and oils, they are much admired by all who visit.

Also ask him anything about jazz or get him to play, he’s got so much to share.”

— PLEP JOHNSTON

“Douglas has a unique style of working. Many of his works are large collages created by ripping up discarded paintings to create dynamic images of the East Anglian landscape.

Living on the Essex coast, working with watercolour, he seeks to portray his surroundings using light, colour, bold shapes and cleanness of line to produce exciting and innovative work. Douglas has a great following with collectors throughout the world.

He is also an inspiring teacher and having taught for many years in and around Manningtree has kept his grateful classes working online throughout the pandemic.”

JULES CUTHBERT

Douglas has been teaching me to draw and paint. I was a complete beginner believing that I had little or no ability and very quickly realised that, with his talent as an artist and encouraging teacher, I was able to produce work that I am thrilled with.”

BARRY WHICHELLO

“I’m very proud to own some artwork by Doug. His choice of subject matter and colour has always been an inspiration. I attend art classes where he is willing to share his vast experience and in particular his knowledge of watercolour”

DAVID PRICE

“Douglas has been teaching me art for several years and has encouraged me to paint and draw using different mediums. Through Douglas’s teaching I have found ways to experiment with oils, watercolour and acrylic and hope very soon to be back in the studio.
