barricade series.
My barricade series is a personal journey as a carer for my mum. During 2013 it became apparent that mum was beginning to lose her short term memory, at times confused by tasks which in the past would have been simple to complete.
Mum was diagnosed with dementia then Alzheimer's. Fortunately, I lived at home with her and up until her last day she was comfortable with me due to a sense of recognition. I consider myself to be very lucky that she did. My day-to-day life at that time caring for mum would cause mental barriers for me and they would be firmly in place throughout.
Whilst walking in Wrabness woods I came across an area where Chestnut trees had been coppiced. The long stakes neatly stacked, the thin branches piled in long rows creating a barricade around the perimeter my route ahead cut off.
The best laid schemes of mice and men. Life does throw curves, the road ahead bifurcated and fate kicks in. But as time passes by, the wood begins to rot and disintegrate setting us free to continue the road ahead once more.
Some moments in life however cruel they seem at the time, are temporary, we learn to realise that these moments can be overcome
