EROSION.
For artists living and working near an estuary or along the coastline, the reality of erosion is very clear to see and measure especially when it's recorded in sketches and paint.
Naturally there is a certain fascination in the shapes created by fallen trees as their roots are revealed, and the clay boulders resting on the shoreline bring artists an ever changing landscape for composition.
I paint this not only as a record but as a cry for help aimed in the direction of anyone who cares to listen.
Residents will stand on an empty muddy beach and remember the time when the cliff face came right out to this point, we are constantly told by the money men that we can't fight nature.
How can we make those with any influence interested in helping us save what we love before it’s all gone?
The answer lies in paintings made in various locations throughout the course of time. Unfortunately, they all reveal the same answer, everything changes and there's nothing we can do about it.
But we can try!
